Nolan Meyer First Featured on feverdream Mural

In November of 2022, The Cleveland Landmarks Committee enthusiastically and unanimously supported the installation of a rotating mural system we here at feverdream proposed. The idea is to rotate the mural with new artworks a few times a year to celebrate and showcase the work of their resident artists.

On February 16th, the approximately 38 foot mural system was installed on The Shoreway building on W. 76th Street in Battery Park, right on the outskirts of the Gordon Square Arts District. feverdream’s current artist resident is Elizabeth Lax, but first was local painter Nolan Meyer whose work is currently featured.

This first mural titled “Lighthouse” depicts a red squid imposed overtop a monochromatic rendering of a lighthouse. Meyer, 24, wanted to make a painting that dealt with the unknown. His piece features the squid and the timeless and enigmatic sea. He likens the lighthouse, an attempt to add structure to the unknown, to the job of a painter— exploring the depths and the mystery of the unknowable. Also of note is the imagery of a lighthouse appearing on a wall of a building aptly named The Shoreway. And considering the scale of the mural on the side of a building meant to protect us from the elements, the piece is a clever play on acknowledging our fears of the unknown.
